UK National Minimum Wage

The UK National Minimum Wage of £7.20 from April 2016 will allow you to earn £259 in a 36 hour week, or 13,600 per year.

With the raised starting tax point from April 2016 of £11,000, £2,600 will be taxed at 20% = £520 per year, or £10 per week.

National Insurance in 2016 you have to pay 12% on earnings over £155 per week, so on the minimum wage over 36 hours you would pay National Insurance on £104 per week =  £18 per week.

This means of a National Minimum Wage over 36 hours at £7.20 per hour / £259 per week, you would take home around £220.

If you live alone:

House rent starts from about £70 per week

Rates start from about £20 per week

Electric/Gas start from about £12 per week

Food for one could be kept as low as £50 per week

So the minimal someone living alone could hope to live on is about £160 per week, leaving about £60 per week for travel, furniture, clothing, insurances and socialising.

Two people sharing on the minimum wage full time could expect to have around £160 per week between them for travel, furniture, clothing, insurances and socialising.

Many people on the National Minimum Wage though do not get 36 hours per week, so are even worse off.

The UK Government have obviously done their sums and know the National Living Wage over 36 hours can give people enough to live on.

The UK Conservative Government has always been known for helping the rich get richer, but they must also know they have to be careful poor people remain a minority, and can earn enough to get by.

Poor people getting too poor, leads to revolts, trade unions gaining vast power, uprisings, and the most dangerous scenario, a political party lead by a nutter gains control of the country, as many of the poor will vote for anyone they think could help their situation.

Look at the UK today, there are a number of political extremists gaining huge support, i.e. Alex Salmond & his clone Nicola Sturgeon, Nigel Farage, and now Jeremy Corbyn.

These people are playing on poverty, and gaining vast support for their cause.

Remember Hitler, Mussolini, Franco and many more, they all gained control of their countries at times when poverty was out of control.
